April Business of the Month: POUR 818

POUR 818 was voted April’s Business of the Month by the Groovin in the Grove community.

Located in the heart of downtown Cottage Grove, POUR 818 has quickly become more than just a place to grab coffee.

It is a space people go to meet, connect, and stay awhile.

Co-owned by Heather Pennington and Stacie Quimby, POUR 818 was built around a shared vision that started years ago and finally came to life in 2024.

A place that offers not just quality drinks and food, but an experience centered around community.

How would you describe POUR 818 to someone who hasn’t been yet?

“POUR 818 is a local tea + coffeehouse located in Downtown Cottage Grove, co-owned by Heather Pennington and Stacie Quimby. Our mission is to pour more than a good cup; it is to build an atmosphere of community and provide an artfully crafted experience. We offer a wide variety of espresso drinks, coffee, tea and spritzers. We also have an extensive toast menu, house made pastries, bagels and some egg options.

We currently feature coffee from Golden Bean award winning Theory Coffee Roasters, teas from Metolius Tea, Portal Tea Co. and Mizuba Tea Co.. We currently make our own pastries and scones; we offer zucchini breads from Shady Oaks and gluten free items from Jack Sprats, Two Crows Bakery and Off The Farm Bars.”

What makes POUR 818 stand out or connect so well with the community?

“When initially designing POUR 818, esthetically, it was super important to us to create a space that felt like home; a comfortable place where people would want to come, linger and connect with others. It was also important to us to provide high quality products and use unique ingredients that were not currently found in Cottage Grove.

Many customers have commented on how beautiful and inviting POUR 818 feels and how much they appreciate the quality of our items and the attention to detail we provide.”

What inspired you to start POUR 818?

“Over the years we both recognized that Cottage Grove was lacking a proper sit-down coffee shop. We both individually dreamed of one day opening a space Downtown that would offer quality tea + coffee as well as a gathering space for our community. In 2012, Stacie and I both worked at PeaceHealth Riverbend and commuted together for over a year. This was when we started to dream together about our ‘one day when’ vision of opening our own tea + coffeehouse. Just over 10 years later, when a space Downtown became available to us, we decided to finally take the leap! In January 2024, POUR 818 was opened.”

Who are the people behind POUR 818?

“We mutually have a heart for our community and want to see it thrive.

Heather: has lived in Cottage Grove for 23+ years, is married with two adult children. She loves to encourage others through creativity. As the owner of Seeds & Flint since 2017, she upcycles and refurbishes furniture, offers DIY sign making workshops and hosts pop-up Makers + Flea Markets. She likes taking trips to Bend and the coast, spending time in her backyard raising chickens, enjoying her flower garden, BBQing, and hosting wood-fired pizza parties with her family and friends.

Stacie: has lived in Cottage Grove most of her life, is married with three adult children and a grandbaby on the way. She loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and encouraging others to pursue their dreams.”

What are some must-try favorites right now?

“Some favorites are our coffee lattes made with specialty syrups, Metolius chai, London Fog, avocado toast and our house made egg bites. We recently added to our menu: a caprese toast, a salted honey breve and created our own strawberry puree that we are using for our sparkling lemonade and iced matcha drinks.”

What kind of experience are you trying to create?

“We want to offer our community an inviting space where when our customers come in, they feel welcomed and known. We also aim to serve our customers with excellence by providing them with an all-around, leveled-up experience, so they will want to return.”

What does being part of Cottage Grove mean to you?

“We truly love our community of Cottage Grove and feel privileged and honored to be a part of the Downtown Main Street group of small business owners. Since opening POUR 818, we have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and creating relationships with fellow business owners and customers within our community that we might not ever have had the opportunity to otherwise.”

Anything coming up people should know about?

“We are excited about being open for Art Walk each last Friday of the Month from 6-8pm and giving local artists an opportunity to be highlighted. We are also currently in the process of planning some other fun ‘POUR After Hours’ events, so stay tuned!”

Fun Fact About POUR 818

POUR 818 is a perfect example of creativity meeting resourcefulness.

When designing the space, Heather and Stacie furnished the entire shop using only used and upcycled furniture.

Even the checkout counter and coffee bar were once headed for the dump before being restored and brought back to life.
