What Is Nightmare on 9th Street?
Nightmare on 9th Street isn't your typical commercial haunted house.
It's a Halloween attraction created by Creswell resident Joanie Kent with help from local residents, who transform a residential yard into a spooky Halloween experience.
Over the years, the attraction has become a local tradition, with previous versions featuring creative displays, Halloween-themed scenes, and haunted-yard activities.
The organizers are welcoming families back to explore Joanie's haunted yard for the 2026 season.
Specific displays and activities for this year's attraction haven't all been announced, so you'll have to stop by and see what they've put together!
Halloween Fun for a Good Cause
One of the things that makes this event special is that it's about more than Halloween decorations and spooky fun.
The attraction raises donations for two organizations doing important work in our local communities.
Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary is a Creswell-based nonprofit providing care for rescued farm animals while promoting compassion and humane education.
Creswell Food Pantry helps provide food assistance to members of the local community.
Whether you contribute money or canned food, your donation helps support these causes.
Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary also plans to provide Halloween coloring sheets for visitors.
Is It Suitable for Kids?
The organizers welcome families and encourage parents to bring their children.
That said, this is a haunted-yard attraction, so some decorations and experiences may be frightening for younger visitors.
Parents should use their judgment, especially if their children are sensitive to spooky displays.
No official scare rating or recommended minimum age has been published for the 2026 event.
Tips Before You Visit
A few things worth keeping in mind:
Dress for the weather. October evenings in Oregon can get chilly.
Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking outdoors.
Bring a donation or four cans of food if you'd like to contribute.
Be respectful of the surrounding neighborhood, neighboring driveways, and nearby residents.
Keep an eye on younger children.
Check the organizer's latest information before heading out.
Since this is a neighborhood attraction, specific parking arrangements and accessibility details should be confirmed with the organizers.
Can't Make Opening Night?
Don't worry! Nightmare on 9th Street is scheduled for six evenings this year:
October 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, and November 1.
All six nights are scheduled from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
That gives families several opportunities to visit, including Halloween night itself.
