Ever wondered how lumber made its way from the hills around Cottage Grove before logging trucks became the norm?
Join the October History Pub at Axe & Fiddle on Tuesday, October 13, for a fascinating look at one of Cottage Grove's most remarkable pieces of logging history.
In the 1920s, local lumberman Walter A. Woodard built an approximately eight-mile wooden flume that carried lumber from the London area toward Latham using nothing more than flowing water and gravity.
Casey Woodard, grandson of Walter A. Woodard, will share the story of this engineering achievement, the people behind it, and the communities forever changed by the construction of Cottage Grove Lake.
The presentation will also feature rare firsthand recordings, along with History Pub favorites like trivia, a 50/50 raffle, and an opportunity to connect with others interested in local history.
