The Cottage Grove Historical Society will celebrate an important chapter in local film history with a special 100th-anniversary screening of Buster Keaton’s The General. The silent comedy was filmed in and around Cottage Grove during 1926, making this screening exactly one century after the production arrived in the community.

Set during the Civil War, The General follows a locomotive engineer caught in a fast-moving adventure involving a stolen train, daring pursuits and Keaton’s signature physical comedy. The movie’s use of steam locomotives and Oregon scenery helped create a lasting connection between Cottage Grove and the early motion-picture industry.

The screening begins at 7:30 PM on Saturday, August 29, at Cottage Theatre. An official ending time has not been published, so guests should contact the theatre if they need additional scheduling information.
