What Can You Find at the Winter Farmers Market?

South Valley Farmers Market brings together local farmers, food producers, and artisans, giving shoppers a chance to purchase products directly from the people who grow or create them.

Depending on which vendors participate, visitors may find a selection of:

  • Locally grown, seasonal produce

  • Farm-produced foods and pantry items

  • Jams, preserves, and other locally prepared products

  • Baked goods and specialty foods

  • Handmade crafts and artisan products

  • Locally made gifts and other seasonal items

The market has historically included a variety of agricultural and handcrafted products, although the exact November 21 vendor lineup and product selection have not yet been published.

That means specific items aren't guaranteed, but discovering what local vendors bring is part of the fun!

Get a Head Start on Thanksgiving and Christmas Shopping

With Thanksgiving falling on Thursday, November 26 this year, the November 21 market lands at a convenient time for anyone preparing for the holiday.

It could be an opportunity to look for locally produced ingredients, specialty foods, or something different to bring to the Thanksgiving table.

And with Christmas approaching, the winter market also provides another option for finding gifts without relying entirely on big-box stores or online shopping.

Whether you're looking for a handcrafted item, a locally made treat, or simply want to see what's available, it's worth making a stop.

Why Shopping Local Matters

One of the things I appreciate about markets like this is that they give smaller producers an opportunity to connect directly with people in their communities.

South Valley Farmers Market is a nonprofit organization focused on creating a welcoming marketplace for local growers and producers.

The market also supports newer businesses, helping independent producers gain experience and connect with customers.

When you purchase something from a local farmer or maker, you're supporting the people and businesses that help make our area what it is.

And especially heading into the holidays, that's something worth keeping in mind.

The Market Moves Indoors for Winter

If you're used to visiting South Valley Farmers Market at 7th and Main Street in downtown Cottage Grove, there's an important change for November.

The winter markets are held at the Cottage Grove Armory, not the usual outdoor market location.

The Armory is located at 628 E Washington Avenue and offers a spacious indoor setting for community events.

The city lists both street parking and nearby city parking lots as options for Armory visitors. The venue also has an accessible entrance.

This makes the winter market an appealing option during Oregon's colder, rainier months.

Does the Farmers Market Accept SNAP or Double Up Food Bucks?

South Valley Farmers Market participates in food-access programs, including SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks.

According to the market's published nutrition-program information, qualifying SNAP shoppers can receive up to $20 in matching Double Up Food Bucks for eligible purchases.

The market also describes other nutrition and children's food-access programs.

Important: The organizer has not separately confirmed which programs will operate at the November 21 winter market. If you plan to use SNAP, matching benefits, or market vouchers, contact the manager before attending to confirm availability and redemption procedures.

Tips Before Visiting

A few things to keep in mind:

Arrive with time to browse. The market is open for six hours, giving shoppers plenty of flexibility throughout the day.

Bring a reusable shopping bag. It makes carrying produce, baked goods, and handmade purchases a little easier.

Consider bringing cash. Individual vendors may offer different payment options.

Plan for changing inventory. Seasonal items and handmade products can vary depending on the participating vendors.

Double-check the location. Remember that the winter market takes place at the Armory rather than the normal outdoor downtown location.

Confirm any special arrangements. Contact the organizers for questions about admission, accessibility, individual vendors, or food-assistance programs.

More Winter Markets Are Coming!

Can't make the November 21 market? There are two more South Valley Farmers Market winter dates scheduled before Christmas.
