Local history, storytelling, and Oregon heritage come together for a special evening at Saginaw Vineyard during the next installment of History Uncorked presented by Spirit of BMD.
Featured speaker Karen Rainsong will share the remarkable story of the Applegate family and their generations long friendship with the local Kalapuya people — a relationship that continued through decades of changing history in Oregon.
Set against the backdrop of the Willamette Valley during the mid nineteenth century, the presentation will explore:
• Early Oregon settler history
• The relationship between the Applegates and the Kalapuya people
• Divisive politics of the 1860s
• Settler and Indigenous relationships in Oregon history
• Why peace existed in the Yoncalla Valley
Guests will also see clips from Two-Way Seeing, a video focused on understanding history from multiple perspectives.
Event Details:
• Wednesday, June 24
• Presentation begins at 6:00 PM
• Event concludes at 7:00 PM
• Public event open to the community
• Seating may be limited, so arriving early is encouraged
Whether you’re a local history enthusiast, interested in Oregon heritage, or simply looking for a unique community event, this promises to be an insightful evening in the vineyard.
