What Is Nightmare on 9th Street?
Nightmare on 9th Street is a community-created haunted yard organized by Creswell resident Joanie Kent with help from other local residents.
Instead of a big commercial haunted house, visitors get to explore a Halloween attraction created right here in our own community.
Over the years, the haunted yard has featured spooky decorations and creative Halloween displays, giving residents another reason to get out and celebrate the season.
The full lineup of decorations and haunted scenes for 2026 hasn't been announced, so you'll have to visit to see what the organizers have put together this year.
Halloween Fun That Supports Two Local Causes
The event isn't just about getting into the Halloween spirit. It's also an opportunity to support two organizations making a difference in the area.
Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary
Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary is a Creswell-based nonprofit that provides care for rescued farm animals and promotes compassion through humane education.
Creswell Food Pantry
The Creswell Food Pantry helps provide food assistance to local individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
The organizers are requesting suggested monetary donations or canned food, with contributions benefiting these two organizations.
Blue Barn Farm & Sanctuary also plans to leave Halloween coloring sheets for visitors to take home.
It's a great example of a community coming together to have some fun while helping others.
Is Nightmare on 9th Street Family-Friendly?
The organizers encourage families to bring their children to explore the haunted yard.
However, parents should remember that this is a Halloween attraction, so some displays may be frightening for younger visitors.
There isn't an officially published 2026 scare rating or minimum age recommendation.
If your kids are sensitive to spooky decorations, it's worth checking with the organizers before visiting.
Things to Know Before Visiting
A few helpful reminders:
Dress for the weather. Late October evenings can be chilly, and rain is always a possibility here in Oregon.
Wear comfortable shoes. This is an outdoor haunted-yard attraction.
Bring your donation. Have your suggested monetary contribution or canned goods ready.
Respect the neighborhood. This is a residential area, so be considerate of nearby homes, parking areas, and driveways.
Supervise younger children. Halloween decorations can be spooky, especially after dark.
Check for updates. Confirm event conditions with the organizer before traveling.
Specific parking instructions, accessibility arrangements, and weather-cancellation procedures haven't been published in the official announcement.
Make a Halloween Evening Out of It
There's plenty happening around Cottage Grove and Creswell on Friday, October 30.
The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce also has its downtown Halloween Trick-or-Treat event scheduled that day, and Cottage Grove's Last Friday Art Walk takes place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
If you're planning to be out celebrating Halloween already, you could make Nightmare on 9th Street another stop during your evening.
Just remember that this haunted yard is in Creswell, so you'll need to allow time to travel between the communities.
Can't Make It Friday? Two More Nights Remain!
If your Friday evening is already booked, Nightmare on 9th Street will be open for two additional nights:
Saturday, October 31 (Halloween): 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM
Sunday, November 1: 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM
Sunday is scheduled to be the final night of the 2026 attraction.
